Tonight marks the 44th annual Country Music Awards (CMA) ceremony. Now, I would never peg myself as a diehard country music fan. As my close friends will testify, I am the biggest pop follower ever! But, I’m excited to tune into tonight’s live awards ceremony as country music has seriously crossed over to the hoi polloi and I am a huge admirer of some of the nominees.
On Tricia’s Radar #1: Lady Antebellum. Lady Antebellum is up for Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, as well as Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Music Video of the Year for their romantic ballad of, yes, a drunken booty call, “Need You Now.” Hello, this song is played all over Kiis-FM (a Top 40 station) and this is country! If you haven’t heard their song, check it out here: http://www.cmt.com/dynamic_templates/videos/video.jhtml?videoContentTypeId=1&type=&videoId=438918#fbid=wVMx-iIm5KW
I’m looking forward to seeing this gorgeous trio, and fabulous lead singer Hillary Scott, receive their deserved accolade.
On Tricia’s Radar #2: Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift is up for Female Vocalist of the Year, and her latest album Speak Now is currently the #1 album on the billboard charts. Note, this is BILLBOARD, which ranks the top songs regardless of genre and is based on physical sales, digital sales and radio airplay. 20-year old Swift’s last album, Fearless, earned her four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year at the 52nd Grammy Awards. Young, pretty, talented, successful, humble and incredibly fashionable – what more can we want?
On Tricia’s Radar #3: Gwyneth Paltrow. Oscar winning ACTRESS Gwyneth Paltrow will make her country singing debut! I love her! She’s most known for her role as Pepper Potts in both Iron Man movies, but one of my favorite movies is Sliding Doors, and Gwyneth perfectly plays the lead role of Helen Qwilley, a London woman whose love life and career both hinge, unknown to her, on whether or not she catches a train. Gwyneth also writes one of my very favorite blogs, “Goop.” And finally, she’s also married to Chris Martin, lead singer of one of my favorite bands Coldplay. Can the woman be any more accomplished?? Geez! Is there anything Gwyneth can’t do? Anyway, I can’t wait to see Gwyneth tonight… singing country.
Watch Country’s highest honors LIVE tonight, November 10th 8/7 central on ABC.
