“If you think you can, or think you can’t, you are probably right.”
I’ve always loved this quote from Henry Ford because isn’t that the truth? So often, we are our own worst enemy. We envision our ideal life and oftentimes, because of fear or insecurity, we paralyze ourselves and never see it come to pass.
Schools we should have attended, jobs we could have pursued, businesses that may have been created, relationships that were ours for the taking… all gone because we, ourselves, jeopardized its chances of success. What holds us back?
It’s time to remember the children’s story, The Little Engine That Could. This book is used to teach children the value of optimism and perseverance and believed by many to be a metaphor for the American dream. Let’s make a concerted effort to believe that anything is possible (because it is), and that we can actually have our dream lives (because we can) and whatever fears and worries that are limiting our vision need to be put aside.
Let’s try it for a month and see what happens. Good luck and keep me posted. We may actually be one step closer to our most ideal life.
