If you haven’t already heard, it’s Earth Week this week, with Earth Day designated for tomorrow, Friday, April 22nd. There are so many things we can be doing to be kinder to our environment, such as conserving electricity, replacing our light bulbs with LED or CFL bulbs, and reducing our consumption of bottled water.
In fact, Americans buy an estimated 28 billion water bottles every year and an estimated 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles die every year from ingestion or entanglement in plastic. How devastating, and quite honestly, so senseless! We truly need to reduce our plastic usage as plastics are not bio-degradeable. Sadly, with the exception of the small amount that has been incinerated, almost every piece of plastic that was ever manufactured still exists in some form.
That’s why I love my Brita filter! As many of you know, I just love water and there’s no need to be getting plastic containers of water every day, week or month. And now, Brita just launched their reusable, BPA-free Brita Bottle so we can now get great-tasting water on the go (without the cost and waste of bottled water)! The Brita Bottles are NSF certified to reduce chlorine taste & odor and 1 filter can replace 150(!) plastic bottles! For $9.99, it is worth every penny to save our earth – let’s reduce, reuse, recycle, replenish and restore.
In addition, here are some other environmentally-conscious home furnishings I’ve spotted (and coveted) lately:
