This past Monday, I joined my talented neighbor Mo (www.artistmommas.com) to the orientation for The Balboa Island Artwalk at the Newport Beach Yacht Club. It was wonderful to attend the mandatory meeting with her because Mo is one of the artists selected to display her portfolio of expressionistic paintings. Just so you know, not just anyone can showcase their work – you must be invited and accepted! I’m thrilled for her as this will be her first time exhibiting and it is the perfect venue to showcase and debut her oil paintings.
The Balboa Island Artwalk is the premier showcase for talented local artists and marks the start of Balboa Island’s summer season. This year, the 2011 Artwalk is scheduled for Sunday, May 15th from 9am to 5pm along the South Bayfront Promenade of Balboa Island in Newport Beach.
This fine art show features artists exhibiting paintings, fine jewelry, blown glass, sculpture, and photography. There’s also live music throughout the day. In fact, Mo scored a perfect spot, next to one of the live bands off of Pearl Street (P.S. another good sign!)
If you are in the area, please check it out. It’s free admission and a delightful way to experience art and live music. And of course, if you go, please say HI to Mo! Maybe one of her many oil paintings will speak to you and inspire you? Ironically, my favorite work of hers, “Hate,” was banned from the show because the committee thought it was too disturbing! But to me, you can really feel the raw emotion from the painting – it is amazing. Per the organizer, “Unfortunately, so many of the good ones are banned.” Of course, that only makes the piece more valuable!
So many talented artists… it has seriously inspired me to take up painting! Hmmm… maybe I need to go to an Aaron Brothers and pick up some supplies.
“Jailbird” 30 x 40 by Artist Mommas will be on exhibit at The Balboa Island Artwalk
