Why I’m So Happy

Iโ€™m so happy these days I can hardly contain it. Really! Apparently, Iโ€™m so exuding with happiness that countless numbers of friends have told me and commented that they can tell just from my energy that I am ecstatically jubilant.

Well, thank you dear friends!ย

They, of course, are right, and itโ€™s because Iโ€™m doing what I love, enjoying my life, and surrounding myself with only people that I like.

Itโ€™s as simple as that!

For those of you who know me, I have always tried to remain kind, gracious and helpful. I grew up with manners and a certain amount of decorum. I would never deliberately make someone feel bad about themselves. Yet, I canโ€™t tell you the countless number of times people have said things to me, that quite frankly, are downright rude and I just swallowed so as not to stoop down to their level.ย  My favorite examples:

โ€œYouโ€™re so funny with your off-season Tory Burch bag.โ€

In reference to me: โ€œYeah, sheโ€™s aged so well.ย Youโ€™d never guess sheโ€™s so much older than us.โ€ (this from a person only a few years younger than me)

Umm. OK. What do I respond to that? โ€œThanks?!โ€

What is wrong with people?ย  Were those two above comments nice to say? What happened to “momโ€™s advice” of โ€œIf you canโ€™t say something nice, donโ€™t say anything at allโ€? And what propels someone to make those kinds of statements? Insecurity? Competitiveness?

Anyway, I now have radar for those types, and frankly, I like to steer very clearโ€ฆ because life is too short to surround yourself with unkind people, or as a friend aptly calls them, “Energy Vampires.”
