I’m so happy these days I can hardly contain it. Really! Apparently, I’m so exuding with happiness that countless numbers of friends have told me and commented that they can tell just from my energy that I am ecstatically jubilant.
Well, thank you dear friends!
They, of course, are right, and it’s because I’m doing what I love, enjoying my life, and surrounding myself with only people that I like.
It’s as simple as that!
For those of you who know me, I have always tried to remain kind, gracious and helpful. I grew up with manners and a certain amount of decorum. I would never deliberately make someone feel bad about themselves. Yet, I can’t tell you the countless number of times people have said things to me, that quite frankly, are downright rude and I just swallowed so as not to stoop down to their level. My favorite examples:
“You’re so funny with your off-season Tory Burch bag.”
In reference to me: “Yeah, she’s aged so well. You’d never guess she’s so much older than us.” (this from a person only a few years younger than me)
Umm. OK. What do I respond to that? “Thanks?!”
What is wrong with people? Were those two above comments nice to say? What happened to “mom’s advice” of “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”? And what propels someone to make those kinds of statements? Insecurity? Competitiveness?
Anyway, I now have radar for those types, and frankly, I like to steer very clear… because life is too short to surround yourself with unkind people, or as a friend aptly calls them, “Energy Vampires.”
