Five Foods You Must Eat Every Day

By now, most of you know that I’ve been really focusing on my health lately. Health is so important! I’m especially conscious of it because I cannot believe that 2 years ago at exactly this time, I was just discharged from the ICU after having sepsis! It is so surreal, and I am so thankful to have survived, and gained a wise perspective on life: you have nothing without your health.

As we all know, the food we eat is so important to our overall health and beauty, and we can’t be lazy about it. We need to consciously realize what we put in our bodies, as it is the fuel of life. I found this article from, and it listed 5 things we need to eat everyday: spinach, black beans, walnuts, oats (or flaxseed), and yogurt. You’ll have to check out the article for the nutrients and benefits that those 5 food items give you, but I wanted to share with you this tasty green monster smoothie recipe I found from the site that incorporates 2 of those 5 items: spinach and yogurt.

This smoothie is so delish and has become one of my breakfast staples. Plus, it’s a great way to get your daily dose of spinach (which is rich in Omega-3s, lutein and folate, and has the best age-erasing powers) and yogurt (the perfect blend of protein and carbohydrates, a great source of calcium, assists in recovery from exercise and muscle growth, and also helps in boosting the immune system of the body).

By the way, you can’t even taste the spinach – it just tastes like a fruit smoothie! So Yummy! Enjoy!

Green Monster Smoothie

1 banana, roughly chopped
4 or 5 strawberries
½ cup fresh blueberries
1 small peach, peeled and roughly chopped
1 heaping cup (or more) fresh spinach leaves, thoroughly rinsed
splash vanilla soy milk
1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
2 teaspoons honey
½ cup crushed ice

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

Note: This recipe is for 2 servings.
