Babymoon to Ojai Valley Inn & Spa

Many of you already know this, but for those of you who donโ€™t, weโ€™re pregnant!

That being said, I wanted to let you guys know what a great time we had on our Babymoon to the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa in Ojai, CA last month.

Thanks to the suggestion of my friend Crystal (who was also recently pregnant with me but gave birth to a cute baby boy earlier this month), Ry and I decided to go on a mini-vacation when I was about 29 weeks along.

It was the perfect respite as Ojai, CA is really a simple, quaint town that also boasts gorgeous and breathtaking views of the Topa Topa mountains and is nestled between acres of stunning citrus groves. Itโ€™s about 35 miles south of Santa Barbara and less than two hours from L.A. This small artsy community reminded Ry of Carmel. I agree, but Ojai is even that much more quaint and non-commercialized.

The Ojai Valley Innย & Spa is a premier Southern California luxury resort that features an award winning on-site spa and golf course. I also was pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful magazine, 805 Living, in the room so I was able to read the amazing pieces written by my dear friend Mallory (who happens to be Senior Editor). Best of all, we could bring Buster along to our Babymoon, so he and I took full advantage of our morning walks to explore the impeccably-kept and serene grounds. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was so peaceful and quiet and the staff were so friendly and very down to earth.

Here are just a few things we did while we were there:

You canโ€™t go to Ojai and not take advantage of one of the 24 hiking paths that crisscross the valley. The most popular (and supposedly most beautiful) hike is โ€œThe Last Chance Trail,โ€ a 9-mile path paralleling Hwy 33. But, we opted for the simpler hike (hey, Iโ€™m preggers!), the Shelf Road Trail, which was pretty gorgeous, too, with its dramatic Ojai Valley views.

Thereโ€™s nothing quite like breakfast food, especially when youโ€™re on vacation. We loved both of the two places where we ate: 1) Eggs โ€˜N Potatoes (1103 Maricopa Highway; (805) 646-5346), located in a strip mall with a Vons grocery store. The view isnโ€™t the best but I loved my breakfast croissant served with bacon, scrambled eggs, tomato, avocado, and Swiss cheese. Plus, they gave us delicious free blueberry French crepes as an appetizer to whet our appetite.

2) We also enjoyed our meal at the low-keyย Ojai Cafรฉ Emporiumย (108 S. Montgomery St.; (805) 646-2723) located in main town. The just-baked muffins and cinnamon-roll French toast looked delicious. I had the buttermilk pancakes and they were perfect.

3) Finally, we opted to treat ourselves one evening to some Spanish tapas at Azu (457 East Ojai Avenue; (805) 640-7987). The food was beyond delicious and the small plates were the perfect size for tasting a bunch of their different offerings including the Portuguese chicken soup and lamb kabobs.

It was really the perfect retreat. Here are just some of the pics I took.

But alas, no golf!
