I Heart Vintage

Lately I’ve been into vintage.  Due to the recession, the top consumer trends of this year are value and nostalgia, and vintage definitely hits both those marks.  According to trendwatching.com, “Nostalgia marketing holds great appeal in times of uncertainty as it allows consumers to reminisce, bringing them back to simpler, more carefree times.”  Additionally, my friend Andy, a sorority sister from college, recently asked me to like her Facebook page, Bloom Vintage.  Check it out – showcased are some absolutely beautiful and timeless pieces of furniture, accessories and clothes.

So… buoyed by this quest to discover vintage, I grabbed my dear friend Joanne this past Saturday in a shopping quest to help me find something timeless to call my own.

Well, it didn’t take me very long!  Macalistaire at 1850 is a unique vintage boutique set in the heart of Laguna Beach, CA (www.macalistaire1850.com).   Fabulous items from all decades are featured throughout that eclectic space and I could have had a field day with some of the beautiful items available in that store!  Clothes, bags, shoes, belts, hats, jewelry – absolutely stunning and elegant!

And since fur was one of the hottest trends spotted all over on New York’s fall runways from Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen and so many other designers, I walked out with a mink stole (circa 1950) that cost me $50.00.  Compare this to Alice + Olivia’s fur bolero retailing at $484.00 or an Anna Sui fur bolero at $645.00!  Chic, timeless and sophistication at a value.  I am hooked on vintage!
